Crystal Renn is a plus-sized model who began her modeling career at the age of 14. At that time, she was told to lose weight and trim her body size. She listened to her mentors, and went from 175 pounds to 95 pounds. The attempt to keep the weight off ended with her developing an eating disorder that began a health crisis.
She has since gained 70 pounds and is a much healthier, albeit plus-sized model, who has a healthier lifestyle and a successful modeling career. She now fluctuates between a size 12 and a size 14 and has been featured in magazines such as "Vogue", as well as runway shows for Dolce & Gabbana, and Jean-Paul Gautier. She also has modeling contracts with Lane Bryant fashions and Torrid.
In addition to her modeling career, Crystal Renn is a published author. She wrote a book entitled "Hungry" that describes her modeling career. She tells the story of how she struggled to lose and keep the weight off when she first started her career, and how it almost killed her. She continues to describe how she came to the conclusion that it was a choice between her job and her health, and how she started the trend in plus-size modeling.
Crystal is believes that it is only a matter of time before plus-size modeling becomes the mainstream just as it was over 100 years ago. She states that fashion is always changing, the cycle started with plus-size models, changed to the slim, size 0 models, and the more people realize that size 0 is not the average size of women, the trend towards plus-sized models will gain momentum.
